Organic Products and reusable shopping bags

More and more of us have made the switch to reusable grocery bags and are no longer using paper or plastic bags for our [sping]daily shopping. | shopping adventures.[/spin] This is fantastic as our combined efforts have the potential to save marine life, finite resources, and tax dollars. If you’re one of the many that is already on the bandwagon, you should be proud of the difference you’re making. If you’re not, hop on!

Now, let’s take that a step further and start buying organic products. Why? Check out the list of benefits!

1. No chemicals/pesticides. Organic farmers grow their products naturally, without the help of chemicals that are used to keep weeds and pests from harming the product. What most people don’t pay enough attention to is the fact that a lot of the food they eat is grown with the help of chemicals, meaning we are indirectly consuming those chemicals. The chemicals also work their way in to the soil where the degrade the quality of the soil over time as well as water supplies. Organic farming eliminates all of these issues.

2. A lot of organic produce that is carried at your local store is grown locally. Therefore, the amount of pollution generated and energy consumed while the food is transported to the store is much less.

3. Organic means happier animals. The slaughter of cattle and other animals in conventional farming can be quite appalling. Organic farmers treat their animals with more care and less chemicals which reduces diseases that may be passed on to us as well as offers a more tender meat product. So, if you can’t do it for the health of your family, do it for the animals.

4. More nutritious food. Organic foods are raised/grown without the use of antibiotics and growth hormones which have been shown to reduce the nutritional value of food. In fact, some countries have banned the use of growth hormones outright in foods meant for human consumption.

In conclusion, organic food is better for the environment, better for your local economy, better for the animals that eventually become our food, and better for you. You can’t ask for much more, can you? So next time you’re at the store, fill your reusable grocery bag up with some organic products!
