Christmas Gift Ideas – Remove The Hard Work Out Of Your Christmas Shopping
Tuesday, January 4th, 2011It is almost at that time of year once more, the time you begin to think about Christmas. I know it seems to get earlier every year and really we have not even head Halloween yet! But nonetheless it is a good idea to start planning your Christmas shopping. Having more cash left in December is the main reason people start shopping early as it enables them to spread the cost of Christmas out over a few months instead of spending all their salary in one shopping trip! This is probably even more relevant with the state of the global financial crisis and people losing their jobs or working reduced hours etc.
But lets not dwell on the gloom and misery. Christmas is a time to look forward for many people and a time for families to get together.
Here are some useful Christmas gift ideas to consider when buying gifts this year:
1. Check Out The Sales Now
Loads of stores run special sales and offers on toys and gifts now. Buy two get the third free, or even 20-30% discount on items. This is great for toys. If you know what your little one’s want then time to snap up the bargains now. Sometimes you have to take a bit of a guess. But as we all know kids can change their minds loads of times between now a Christmas as I well know being Mum to three little terrors (sorry I mean kids!). This can be worrying when they tell you they no longer want the toys you have just purchased. However, there is no need to worry too much. They usually don’t remember and are very happy get the gift at Christmas!
2. Is Nearly New OK?
I used to have a real problem buying nearly new items, that was before I had children and realised how empty my bank account can suddenly become. But with the advent of auction sites online you are able to get some fantastic bargains nowadays. Lets face it children don’t play with toys for that long, they soon get pushed to one side when the next latest and greatest toy comes out. So take a good look at these online auction web sites, have a good look at the items available, but remember before buying anything check out the sellers history and their feedback just to make sure they can be trusted.
Another tip is if you buy video games, for consoles such as the Xbox, playstation, PSP and Wii etc they buying second hand games is a great way to save some money. Again children and even adults finish playing the games so quickly that trading them in for new or used games can be a great way to pick-up some bargains. My husband regularly takes our old games back to Game and trades them in. This means we can buy a couple of slightly used games for the kids which keeps them happy. Fortunately we have not had any problems with the slightly used games we have purchased and basically I highly recommend this way of picking up a bargain.
3. Use Your Imagination
Most family members don’t expect a lot of money to be spent on Christmas gifts especially when you have children. For example my parents-in-law and even my mum and dad really like getting gift vouchers, a nice book, flowers etc. They get more pleasure out of seeing the children open their gifts. For them this is what Christmas is all about. Therefore bear in mind that you do not have to spend a fortune of presents. Think about the person, think what they would really want. Making your own gift is incredibly special and it is the real spirit of giving and it enables you to save some cash which is always a nice feeling.
