Sunday, July 3rd, 2011

In order to drive traffic to your online store, links to your store should appear as high as possible on search engine results pages. There are two methods to get your shopping cart powered store on the 1st page of Google’s results page. The 1st is through bidding for keywords thru Adwords and the second’s through Search engine optimization or SEO.

Pay For Traffic
PPC is of course the faster technique to get traffic to your internet site. The higher your bid for related keywords, the better the likelihood your ad stands on appearing on the first page. Everybody wants their advertisements to appear on the first page because that’s where most of the traffic comes from.

The key to using Adwords is the diversity of related keywords used, for it is the search phrases that triggers the impressions or ad displays on results pages. So be sure you have about 10 keywords per ad prepared per ad group.

You can generally target more competitive keywords through Adwords but having said that, it relies on your budget too.

Optimize Your internet site
SEO takes a bit more time to get your store ranked high in organic search results but if you do it yourself, it is free. Many customizable shopping cart software already come with in-built SEO tools to help optimize your store for search websites. These tools are usually free and are convenient to use.

Search is driven by keywords. For SEO, longer tail keywords are customarily targeted [*T]. It is commonly better to rank high up on Google’s results pages with long tail keywords. When you’ve carried out proper keyword research, you need to populate parts of your store with those keywords. You need to cover all the bases, from URL file names all the way to content. This may be easily done with the help of your shopping cart software SEO tools.

You see, the brains at Google have made a complicated routine to analyze sites. Through a method known as Latent Semantic Indexing or LSI, Google is in a position to more or less figure out what a site is about and appropriately match it to search questions. As a store owner, you would wish to confirm Google has an accurate notion of what your store is all about so not only will you end up with traffic but highly targeted traffic.

Loading Times
Keywords aren’t the sole consideration Google looks at when it decides the simplest way to rank your internet site. The time it requires your internet site or pages on your internet site to load also matters. Sites with slow load times may be penalized by search websites. You may use free tools from firms like Alexa to find out how your internet site fares in comparison the other sites on the net when it comes to loading speed.

If your internet site is below average re load times then you may have to optimize your site’s elements like photographs and animation. These elements can seriously affect loading times.

Flash Content
Also, be certain your internet site is not one hundred percent flash based as it does nada to improve SEO because search websites can’t read content in flash format. If search sites cannot read your content, they won’t be able to tell what your internet site is all about and thus they are going to be unable to give it due authority for your targeted keywords. When that occurs, your internet site will not be ranked high and will miss lots of traffic. As an alternative, try to use inbuilt shopping cart features like content sliders for photographs together with standard HTML format for content.

To summarize :

  • Use PPC to drive traffic to your site fast
  • Make sure your site does not take too long to load
  • Use flash sparingly as search engines cannot read flash content

How To Use Google Adwords And Google With Magento Commerce

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Magento commerce is really quite the rage in today’s market.

So why is Magento commerce so popular?

Magento commerce (also known as Magento Ecommerce) is a technology designed to help people build online store fronts through their shopping cart program. A Magento store that is correctly deployed provides a slick piece of art for visitors to enjoy.

However, therein is the problem.

No matter how good a Website is it amounts to little more than a “hill of beans” if it does not reach the market share that it is intended to reach.

That is why I’m happy about Google and Adwords which are both technologies that can help promote a message to a targeted niche audience.

Google Adwords is built on a platform of paid advertising which can also be defined as PPC or pay per click advertising. A person can work Google Adwords by bidding on a particular keyword phrase that they have to pay for each time someone clicks their link. The good news is that Google Adwords can be a very powerful tool that helps you reach a specific targeted audience. The bad news is that it can be extremely expensive if not done right.

This expense with Google Adwords can be avoided.

Organic ranking is free keeping your wallet secure from losing its green. Simply put, you decide what keyword phrases you want to rank for on the search engines and make sure your information displays on those pages. Sound easy? It’s not. Appearing on the first page of search engines for free (also known as organic ranking) is part science and part art.

Here are just some of the things a person must consider for this to work:

  • URL naming conventions (Domain, folder & file names)
  • Title tags (page, graphics & textual links)
  • Meta tags (keywords and descriptions)
  • Heading tags (H1 & H2)
  • Linking (Internal and external)

There are those that believe the most important ingredient from the above list is back linking.

I would disagree.

It’s not that I don’t believe proper linking strategies work. I just don’t believe that it is the only factor that matters. A case against me would be the recent project that I achieved 60+ keyword phrases on front pages of major search engines in less than 3 months all without a lick of on-page SEO.

If there were one strategy that I believe is overlooked the most when building links it would be that of the “title” tag.

A vast number of Internet Marketers don’t even realize what this is or how to do it.

Here is how it works.

To illustrate let’s build a niche keyword phrase surrounding the keyword of “magento commerce”

Unless there is an interface given within the platform that I am building on I am left with having to write an A HREF tag with “<” on each side.

So that you can see the code I have created a very bad A HREF tag below to illustrate.

A HREF=”htt…”>Magento Commerce</A

While that link may be fine and good, if written better than I did above, it is missing a very important and easily added ingredient in the “title” tag.

A HREF=”htt…” title=”Magento Commerce”>Magento Commerce</A

This title tag provides me even more power for each link I create especially if the keyword phrase I am wanting to build the link for also is contained within the link itself. No matter if you are promoting Magento Ecommerce or some other offer this simple addition will help you achieve the rankings you desire. Therefore, gaining the exposure you need to get the traffic you want becomes easier when you understand the finer points of Google and Adwords.

I hope the above information will be of great use to all your Google and Adwords campaigns as Google and Adwords can be a critical part of success on the Web no matter if you are promoting a Magento Ecommerce shopping cart program or not. And when your online success does involve building a Magento Ecommerce storefront I recommend stopping by http://Magento-Commerce-Resource-Point.com and checking out what they have to offer on the topic of Magento Ecommerce technology.
